RAPID CITY, S.D.— A non-profit in Sioux Falls that supports high-poverty schools is expanding its support to Rapid City. Promising Futures started 7 years ago to aid schools with a high number of students on free or reduced-priced lunches. Now, it’s expanding to four RCAS elementary schools. Wednesday morning Promising Futures delivered $25,000 to the schools to purchase one book a month, for nine months, for low-income students.
Founder of Promising Futures Steve Hildebrand says, “What we hope to do is is get kids to read more, to become passionate readers themselves. Reading is going to be a huge predictor of your success in life.”…
