Spokane firefighter awarded for bravery after saving man in 2025

SPOKANE. Wash. – In August of 2025, a structure fire on South Sherman Street left an elderly man trapped in his home. Spokane firefighters responded to the call, and Liam Riley of Engine 4’s crew entered the home to find him.

The man was in his living room, unconscious.

Riley, Engine 1 and Truck 14 quickly decided to bring the man outside through a window. The way out through the entrance was too dangerous and growing more so by the minute…
