Construction crews working on a new overpass at U.S. 67 and Lake Ridge Parkway in Cedar Hill are building more than just concrete and steel. Once finished, the retaining walls along the interchange will carry a painted relief mural featuring bird artwork, a nod to Cedar Hill’s identity as a certified Bird City Texas community.
The interchange is part of Loop 9 Segment A, a roadway project that the City of Cedar Hill, Texas – Government on Facebook says will connect Cedar Hill, Ovilla, Glenn Heights and Red Oak. The Texas Department of Transportation began construction on the US 67 and Lake Ridge Parkway improvements as part of that larger segment, which is planned to reduce travel times, strengthen regional accessibility, and support future economic development across the area, according to the same city post. The design includes a new grade-separated interchange with six lanes, along with reconstructed main lanes and frontage roads meant to improve connectivity, safety, and mobility while cutting congestion.
An Interchange Built for Decades of Growth
The physical scope of the project is considerable. TxDOT’s design for the US 67 and Lake Ridge Parkway interchange spans approximately 1.9 miles, reconstructing the US 67 main lanes with a 26-foot grassy median, converting existing ramps into an X-ramp configuration, and adding Texas U-turns, according to Texas Department of Transportation planning documents.
