OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma City’s first of four signs celebrating the Route 66 centennial was installed Thursday morning. There are more than a couple dozen of them from Chicago all the way to California. News 4 was there for the latest installment and spoke to the company based right here in Oklahoma City that’s responsible for making them.
The 100-year celebration of the Mother Road rolls on. On Thursday morning, the party was at NW 43rd Street and Western Avenue near the Will Rogers Theatre.
“This is the first national monument for all of Route 66,” Director of the Route 66 Centennial Monument Project Brian Brown said. “Surprisingly, there had not been one.”

The sign is the 29th to go up nationwide. There are three others planned for Oklahoma in the next couple of days. They’re paid for through the Maps 4 sidewalk program, and you may not even know that they’re made right here in Oklahoma City…
