CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – After Friday’s scorching heat topped out near 96 degrees, we’re tracking a significant pattern shift.
This weekend brings more heat and humidity along with daily shower and thunderstorm chances through at least Tuesday. A real break from the summer heat arrives by midweek.
What’s happening this weekend
High pressure is gradually weakening and moving westward, allowing cooler air to filter into the Carolinas. However, the region remains in a warm, moist pattern that will fuel afternoon storms through at least Tuesday.
Saturday: Partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s. A few afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible after 3 p.m.
Sunday: Slightly cooler with highs near 90. A mix of sun and clouds with afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances returning; coverage will be more widespread than Saturday. Light northeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.
Monday: One more warm day

Tuesday: Best chance for widespread storms
Tuesday brings our best chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms ahead of a stronger cold front. Highs will be in the mid-80s, with damaging wind gusts remaining the primary threat from any strong storms. This is the day to monitor closely if you have travel plans.
