Tanya Zhykharevich has a history of going against the grain. The Madison restaurateur grew up in Belarus and moved to the U.S. alone in 2004 when she was in her early 20s.
After years working in hospitality, she decided to open her first restaurant in 2011. But it wasn’t a Belarussian restaurant — or even an Eastern European one. It was Japanese.
