MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – American Girl has officially introduced its newest Girl of the Year character, bringing the iconic brand’s narrative back to where its company history first began.
The limited-edition Girl of the Year dolls are designed to reflect what it’s like for a girl to grow up in modern day. The stories are grounded in everyday experiences and interests of girls of the current time.
‘The Bubble’ opens as a dedicated teen space at Oshkosh Public Library
The new 18-inch doll, Daisy Davenport, is a fictional 10-year-old growing up in Madison, Wisconsin. Designed as a standout soccer player, guitarist, and outdoors enthusiast who loves biking around her hometown, Daisy is the first character in the brand’s line to originate directly from the Badger State.
Daisy’s backstory follows her as she leaves Madison for her first summer at sleepaway camp—the same ‘Camp Gowonagin’ attended by classic historical character Molly McIntire. While the camp is fictional, American Girl says the location has always been pictured as being in northern Wisconsin.
Throughout the story and her stay in ‘Badger Cabin,’ Daisy navigates common childhood hurdles, including homesickness, teamwork dynamics, and adjusting to new outdoor environments.
