Monica Hicks was almost home Saturday night when the rear window of her car shattered.
Her five children, all younger than 10, were inside as someone fired repeatedly at the vehicle on Grant Road in northwest Harris County. Five-year-old Zah’Layah Walton was struck in the head. Two of her siblings were hurt by broken glass.
Hicks called 911, applied pressure to her daughter’s wound, and waited for paramedics, according to Harris County court records reported by the Houston Chronicle. Zah’Layah was flown to a hospital, where she died…
