Massachusetts is moving closer to replacing the 91-year-old Sagamore Bridge, launching the final procurement phase and securing nearly $1 billion in federal funds for the long-awaited project.
Gov. Maura Healey announced the authorization of $956 million in federal grant funding and the release of a Request for Proposals for the bridge’s design-build contract, according to a press release from her office. The Federal Highway Administration is expected to authorize an additional $371 million in mid-October to further back the massive infrastructure effort.
The procurement launch marks the final stage before construction begins. MassDOT expects to receive final proposals from design and construction teams in May 2027, with a public bid opening planned for July 2027. Construction is expected to kick off in winter 2027…
