New security measures implemented in the South Bronx Hub

SOUTH BRONX (PIX11) — There are now new security measures in place to try to improve safety and quality of life issues in the area known as The HUB in the South Bronx.

The Third Avenue Business Improvement District announced the installation of fifteen new surveillance cameras on ten storefronts. They are live cameras that can be virtually accessed by members of the BID.

More than 75 solar-powered lights have also been added to the sides of buildings to deter crime. They also launched a pilot program, where two public safety ambassadors will walk  the corridor of Third Avenue and 149th Street during regular business hours.

Pedro Suarez, the Executive Director of the Third Avenue BID, said ” the cameras face the front of stores so there are a lot of issues we’re trying to address , from folks struggling with mental health to illegal parking to illegal drug sales.”…
