24-year-old arrested after nearly $50K stolen in computer fraud

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 24-year-old Wisconsin man has been arrested after nearly $50,000 was stolen from a Hanover resident through computer fraud.

According to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported to officials on March 13 that he received a pop-up alert on his computer presenting as Microsoft, which told him to contact Lumen Technologies.

After contacting Lumen, the victim gave the person remote access to his computer. The suspect then gained access to the victim’s financial information and took almost $50,000 from his bank account…
