RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Mayor Danny Avula is reversing course on a proposed solar panel project due to a potential conflict of interest that may threaten its “legitimacy.”
In a statement issued the evening of Friday, Oct. 2, Avula said he is directing chief administrative officer (CAO) Odie Donald, II to immediately investigate “a potential relationship in one of our departments that could put the legitimacy of the solar PPA ordinances in jeopardy.”
These ordinances, which have been at the center of both confusion and controversy in recent days, would allow for the installation of solar panels on city-owned buildings in partnership with Secure Solar Solutions. Those close to the project have said it could save Richmond millions in energy costs…
