Homeowner, two dogs escape early morning Eaton County house fire

CARMEL TWP., Mich. (News 10) – The Charlotte Fire Department responded to a house fire early Monday in Carmel Township after the homeowner woke to find his home filling with smoke.

The homeowner was able to safely escape with his two dogs but was unable to reenter the home to retrieve his phone, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

After unsuccessfully trying to get the attention of neighbors, the homeowner drove to the downtown Charlotte fire station and knocked on the doors shortly before 3:30 a.m. He alerted Charlotte police officers at the station to the fire.

The first fire truck arrived shortly afterward and found heavy smoke coming from the home. Since the fire was visibly involving the basement, first floor and second floor, firefighters requested a second alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene, according to the department…
