S.F.’s microclimates bring relief as heat grips much of the Bay Area

A foggy 59 degrees in Ocean Beach and a sunny 80 degrees in the Mission District: Monday marked a quintessential day of San Francisco microclimates, a pattern that is expected to continue Tuesday through Thursday.

As most of the Bay Area remains under a heat advisory through Thursday evening, San Francisco’s temperatures are more nuanced.

Fog will ride low Tuesday morning, with warm, dry air above. That means the highest hills could rise above the clouds while neighborhoods below are engulfed. By midday, fog should retreat to within a few blocks of the beach as sun breaks through elsewhere.
