Woman selling valentine gifts robbed and hit by SUV in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A woman who was selling valentine baskets on a Wichita street corner ended up being robbed and then hit by the robber’s vehicle, police say.

It happened Tuesday at Pawnee and Hillside.

The Wichita Police Department said officers were dispatched to the report of a crash at the intersection. But when they arrived, they learned that someone had robbed the gift seller and then hit her with an SUV while fleeing. Police said the woman had minor injuries.

A witness got a picture of the vehicle and showed it to officers. Police used that picture and Flock cameras, which read license plates, to find and track the car.

Police say an officer tried to pull the car over, but the driver would not stop. There was a short chase which ended at the driver’s home.

The WPD said the driver ran inside the home but then gave up and came outside and was arrested.

Police plan to turn the case over to the district attorney’s office for charges.
