Buffalo man admits to attacking mail carrier

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man is facing up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty to assaulting a mail carrier in September 2025, the United States Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Jacob D. Ortiz, 34, attacked a letter carrier on Sept. 9, 2025 on Columbus Avenue. Ortiz tackled the letter carrier and punched him several times, officials said. The letter carrier suffered several cuts and bruises as well as a bump on the back of the head.

A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.
