Chicago mayor vetoes City Council’s wage freeze for tipped workers

CHICAGO — Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson used his veto pen Wednesday and defied the City Council over wages for tipped workers.

It was last Wednesday, in a 30-18 vote, City Council froze wage increases for tipped workers. Alders say they heard directly from business owners that they’re having a hard time. But Johnson used his authority to overrule Council.
