JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was found guilty in connection to a fatal interstate shooting that killed a woman and injured another in Jackson.
Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Carlos Varnell was found guilty of murder, aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

On October 24, 2021, Jackson police responded to a disturbance in the 1400 block of Fortification Street near a local Mexican restaurant, involving the victims and an associate of Varnell.
Following the fight, police said Varnell followed the victims to Cierra Rhymes’ apartment complex. As the victims remained in their vehicle and attempted to flee, police said Varnell followed Rhymes and Miesha Robinson, 28, from the complex onto Interstate 55.
During the chase, police said Varnell shot into the victims’ vehicle multiple times, striking Rhymes in the back and Robinson in the stomach. Robinson later died from her injuries at a local hospital, and Rhymes survived…
