Bagel desert no more: Mission bakery expands to Russian Hill

Three months after a wave of Peet’s Coffee closures shuttered the location in Russian Hill, a popular Mission bagel shop is moving in. Good thing, too, because despite San Francisco’s increasingly heated bagel scene, the neighborhood is a true bagel desert, with nary a pumpernickel to be found.

Bageletto (opens in new tab) opened a small cafe and a much-larger production facility a year ago on 14th Street. Cofounder Kiki Theodorides confirmed that by the summer, the former chain coffee spot on Polk Street between Broadway and Vallejo will be its second outpost.

Theodorides and her husband, Rich D’Aloia, have secured the space and are working to get it up and running quickly. “Cross our fingers, we should open in the next 60 to 90 days.”…
