Man pleads guilty to killing homeless man in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man accused of stabbing and killing a homeless man in Albuquerque changed his plea in court on Monday.

Joseph Hernandez pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

According to Albuquerque Police, Hernandez and the victim got into a physical fight in the area of 1st Street and Rosemont Avenue NW in April 2025. At one point, the victim pushed Hernandez to the ground, and when Hernandez got up, he had a large knife in his hand. Police said Hernandez then stabbed the victim several times before walking away.

The violent encounter was captured on surveillance video. Police were able to identify Hernandez as the stabbing suspect with the help of a local business employee and booking information from the Metro Detention Center…
