Supervisor urges Gov. Newsom to declare state of emergency over South Bay hydrogen sulfide levels

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — San Diego County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre is calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency in response to what she describes as dangerously high levels of hydrogen sulfide gas in the South Bay.

Aguirre said recent data from UC San Diego’s Airborne Institute show hydrogen sulfide concentrations are reaching 4,500 parts per billion — far above the state’s health standard of 30 parts per billion.
