St. Louis sirens worked as intended during Wednesday storms, officials say

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Fire Department confirms that the city’s outdoor warning siren system and notification platforms all functioned as designed during Wednesday night’s storms.

The sirens were activated automatically, audible to people both inside and outside their homes.

Sirens were a critical component of the city’s upgraded notification system in wake of the May 16, 2025 tornado. St. Louis’ Emergency Management Agency Director was fired after an investigation found “multiple cascading failures” during the May 16 tornado response.
