Man accused of killing mother-in-law was subject of relatives’ recent complaints

A Toledo woman whose husband is accused of beating her mother to death Wednesday evening told police three days before that he had made threats to her friends, a police report shows.

A Sylvania police report from just after Christmas, meanwhile, said Jonathan Schmidt, 35, had clashed with his own parents then, but no formal complaint was made.

Toledo police told Kinsey VanDruten, 34, on Sunday that there wasn’t enough evidence for them to charge her husband but said a report would be made and advised her on how to follow up with her desire to seek a restraining order against him in light of her fears about her own safety and that of the couple’s infant son…
