Horse dead after crash in Albuquerque’s South Valley

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A tragic crash involving a horse had traffic at a standstill on a busy South Valley road Wednesday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., Bernalillo County Deputies responded to calls of a car hitting a horse along Coors Boulevard and Garner Road, which is south of Pajarito Road.

A neighbor told KRQE News 13 that the horse and its owner were out for a ride before the crash, but it’s common for people to ride their horses. “People do it all the time, it’s great. We love it when people ride their horses out here, and for whatever reason, the horse panicked, and it bucked her off the horse,” said Chris Crane, a nearby neighbor.

Bernalillo County Animal Care Services confirms that the rider was bucked off, and the adult horse ran onto Coors and was hit by a car. That car remained on scene and cooperated with deputies. The horse suffered severe injuries, and a veterinarian euthanized the animal…
