The last Gathering of Nations event takes place this weekend in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After four decades, an iconic event showcasing native American culture is coming to an end. This weekend, Tingley Coliseum will host the final Gathering of Nations ever. “A pretty legendary powwow, it’s very monumental,” said Dania Wahwasuck, Miss Indian World 2025-2026.

It’s the end of an era for an event that celebrates Native American culture in New Mexico. After more than 40 years, the Gathering of Nations announced this year’s event will be its last, as the organizers look to retire.

Diana Wahwasuck, who was crowned Miss Indian World last year, said it’s sad to see the event go. “Gathering of Nations just brings so many different communities together that even now, every single year it’s just amazing to be able to learn from one another and the differences in our tribes,” said Wahwasuck…
