ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In celebration of Earth Day, future transit and climate leaders in Albuquerque talked about how important public transit is. This is the third year that ABQ Ride has partnered with downtown elementary schools to educate the next generation of passengers about the environmental benefits of taking the bus. Fourth and Fifth-grade students rode the bus and planted flowers at the Alvarado Transportation Center.

“It’s important that we protect the planet that we live on and this is one way we can do that by giving back and putting some plants in we also got a chance to take the Lew Wallace Elementary children on a bus ride so that they can become more familiar with public transportation, which is a big piece of sustainability so if they become comfortable with it hopefully we are growing some transit riders for the future that will help to protect our environment,” said ABQ Ride Transit Director Leslie Keener.
ABQ Ride said that they hope this field trip will inspire kids to take care of their planet…
