The suspect in a fatal Mount Vernon shooting in November was killed last month in the Bronx in apparent retaliation for the earlier killing, The Journal News has learned.
On the morning of March 26, Assam Alshaif, 21, was shot multiple times at Jerome and Bainbridge avenues in the Bronx. Jadore Reid was taken into custody near the scene and has since been indicted on charges including second-degree murder. He allegedly told police he had done it for his friend, according to a Bronx court document.
That was an apparent reference to 17-year-old Jaydin Maraj, who was shot in the head late on Nov. 21, 2025, as shots rang out as he and two others ran from a crowd in a parking lot on Eastchester Lane in Mount Vernon, according to the court record and authorities.
