Severe storms possible Thursday, more threats ahead

Please be weather aware today, strong to severe storms will be possible. In addition to large hail and strong gusts, a few tornadoes will be possible.

With most of the moisture staying to the east, Western Kansas will be mainly dry. This is where Fire Weather Warnings will be in effect today, to the northwest and to the southwest.

A cold front will aid in initiating storms later today. Despite the front passing through, most temperatures will still be warm.

Storms are expected to develop after 3pm. Areas around the Kansas Turnpike will especially need to be weather aware.

Storms will likely remain strong after sundown. This when they will begin to slide south and east of the turnpike.

Most of the strong storms should be out of the area early into the overnight. If anything is still around after 1am, it will mainly be in the far southeast corner of the area.

Early risers Friday morning will start the day dry. We will feel the effects of the cold front tomorrow morning, some lows to the northwest could get close to freezing.

Friday will not be as active. Western Kansas will not be out of the woods when it comes to grassfire concerns, they will be elevated close to the Kansas/Colorado line.

Despite being mainly dry throughout much of the day tomorrow, a few late showers will be possible to the northwest.

A weather aware weekend follows. Saturday starts mainly dry and we may stay that way into the afternoon. However, storms are expected to develop by the evening and some could be strong to severe.

Saturday evening’s weather will likely impact Sunday’s set up. Either way, be prepared for more strong to severe storms to wrap up the weekend.

We will get a break from storm chances for at least a couple of days early next week.
