Final ‘Gathering of Nations’ begins on Friday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Gathering of Nations begins its final run at Expo New Mexico on Friday, as organizers call this year’s powwow the “Last Dance.”

Gates will open at 10 a.m. and the first grand entry starts at 12 p.m. at Tingley Coliseum. Organizers say thousands of dancers and drummers in full regalia will fill the arena, with four grand entries planned through Friday and Saturday.

The Gathering of Nations started in 1983 and grew into what organizers describe as the largest Native cultural festival in the world. The event now brings together more than 3,000 participants and more than 100,000 attendees from more than 500 tribes across the U.S. and Canada…
