New documentary honors 20 years of Symphony in the Flint Hills

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita filmmaker Matt Crow stopped by KSN News at Noon on Monday to talk about his upcoming documentary, “Legacy of Symphony in the Flint Hills.”

The film captures the traditional annual event organized by the nonprofit Symphony in the Flint Hills, which celebrated art, culture, music and Kansas history until its final performance in June.

He recorded 10,000 concerts on tape. Now they’re streaming for free

The Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event began in the early 2000s with the goal of inspiring people to preserve the tallgrass prairie. Over its 20‑year run, the event drew roughly 150,000 people to the Flint Hills.

“It’s just amazing to sit there in the hills and hear that through that great music,” Crow said. “I’m not even much of a classical music guy, but it is just such a breathtaking experience.”
