Big Pizza Giveaway Planned For Tono’s North Loop Grand Opening
For those who aren’t familiar with Tono Pizzeria + Cheesesteaks, the company has chosen a nice way to introduce itself to North Loop residents–with free food.
After a ribbon cutting at its Grand Opening Saturday, May 2nd, 10:45 am, the first 100 people through the doors will get a free pizza (not slices, an actual made-to-order pizza) plus a dessert (either a cookie or ice cream sandwich).
The new Tono’s, at 250 3rd Avenue North, is the 11th location for the Twin Cities-based company. Co-founder Shaz Khan said people have been asking them to open up in this neighborhood.
“We listen to people when they say, ‘hey, you should open here and there’” he said. “North Loop is a happening spot and we want in. This is a great location and we think we’re going to be a great fit.”
Tono, which opened its first fast-casual location in 2019, was co-founded by chef and restaurateur Antonio “Tono” Gambino, whose father was from Sicily and mother was from Philadelphia. That’s how the unusual combination of Philly cheesesteaks and Sicilian pizza came to be.
“We like to say that we introduced the authentic cheesesteak to Minnesota,” Khan said. “We fly our rolls in, the Amoroso rolls from the east coast. We use high quality cuts of meat, not frozen.”
In addition to Saturday’s Grand Opening, Tono will also have a special celebration for pet owners on Sunday afternoon, May 3rd, from 4-6 on the patio…
