Hiker airlifted after 10-hour search, rescue effort in Jemez Mountains

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – A call for help for a lost hiker in the Jemez Mountains led to a multi-hour rescue effort by first responders and the National Guard on Monday.

Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue’s Heavy Technical Rescue Team with support from the National Guard, Albuquerque Mountain Rescue, Sandoval County, Town of Bernalillo Fire Department, and Cibola Fire Department worked for about 10 hours to rescue a hiker that had fallen down a cliff and was unable to make it back to the trail.
