Texas Roadhouse just made a big change to water service — what to know

A popular Texas-themed dining chain is temporarily cutting back its offering of complimentary beverages, according to a report. Folks who routinely visit Texas Roadhouse may recall water being served to them without even requesting it. While not an option in San Antonio due to local restrictions, it is a common practice at U.S Texas Roadhouse locations outside of the city and state. However, the chain is ending that perk in several counties of at least one state for the time being.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board announced on Tuesday, March 24, that several areas entered a Modified Phase III “Extreme” Water Shortage. Businesses and homeowners in at least seven counties are among those impacted by the order, which officials say is the result of ongoing drought conditions.

Over the next few weeks, residents in the impacted counties must only water their areas during the time periods allotted by the agency. Additionally, restaurants are required to only serve water if guests explicitly ask for it.
