A busy weather pattern is unfolding across Southcentral Alaska Tuesday, with snow falling in the higher elevations and rain showers moving through the region. While the snow didn’t stick around at lower levels, the moisture continues to move in, bringing significant rainfall to some areas and setting up for more active weather through the weekend.

What’s Happening Now

Snow fell in the higher elevations Tuesday morning, but most of it has already melted away as warmer air moves in at lower levels. A line of showers is pushing through Southcentral, with the most intense rainfall occurring in isolated cells along a frontal boundary.

The radar is active from the Sterling Highway through Cooper Landing, across the Anchorage Bowl and into the valley. These individual cells within the front are expected to drop significant moisture over the next couple of hours before wrapping up.
