KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A group of members of the People’s Food Co-op of Kalamazoo announced that they have filed a complaint in court against the group’s board of directors.
It comes after months of director resignations and changes at the store level.
Members are officially called owners. A group of owners gathered at Kalamazoo College’s campus on Wednesday night to watch this month’s online board of directors’ meeting. At the end, the announcement of the lawsuit was shared with the group.

According to the release, a complaint was filed in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. It alleges that current and former directors and officers have violated co-op bylaws and the Michigan Nonprofit Corporation Act. The complaint says directors have been appointed beyond statutory limits and decisions have been made outside of open and transparent processes. It further claims that members have been blocked from seeing corporate records like minutes and contracts.
