Bakersfield’s neighborhood streets are vulnerable to speeding drivers: Grand Jury report

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Grand Jury found several flaws in the city of Bakersfield’s traffic calming measures and made multiple recommendations to help reduce speeding in residential areas.

On Thursday, the Grand Jury released a report titled “Traffic Calming for the City of Bakersfield – We Should All Slow Down.”

The Bakersfield Public Works Department is responsible for all aspects of city planning, which includes traffic, the report said.

The city of Bakersfield’s population has nearly doubled since 2000 — from 245,545 in 2000 to over 420,530 in 2025, indicating an increase of over 71% — and the city’s land area also increased by over 7%…
