RANDLEMAN, N.C. (WGHP) — A 17-year-old is recovering after falling 30 feet down a hole near the Worthville Dam.

‘Free Fall’

Miles Smith and his nephew went to go fishing for an evening after school on April 15. The pair decided to walk through a building that served as a power plant for the old Worthville Mill on Russell Walker Avenue.

Body found in Sedgefield area identified, Greensboro police say

“Me and my nephew decided to walk through that to get to the spot because we wanted to fish on top of the dam … It was real hot, so we stood inside for a few seconds,” Miles said.

Miles has a passion for photography and fishing. He said he wanted to take photos of the area.

“I took a step forward … Next thing I know, it was just free fall,” Miles said. “But all I really remember is hearing my nephew scream my name.”…
