Man accused of stealing Houston firetruck while crew was on call, crashing into fence

HOUSTON — A man was arrested early Friday morning after police say he jumped into a Houston Fire Department firetruck and drove off while the crew was responding to an emergency call. The man reportedly crashed through a fence before being taken to a hospital and then transported to jail.

The incident began around 2:45 a.m. when an HFD firetruck was parked along Memorial Loop Drive during an active call for service. According to a spokesperson for the Houston Police Department, a man climbed into the unattended firetruck and drove away.

The suspect allegedly clipped a parked car before crashing through a fence Memorial Loop Drive near the baseball field. He was transported to a hospital following the crash…
