In Broomfield, proposed ordinance could help address street racing

A new vehicle nuisance provision in Broomfield’s city code could crack down on “organized unlawful vehicle activity” such as street racing, according to Broomfield police.

In its Tuesday meeting, the Broomfield City Council unanimously gave the OK on its first vote for the new provision, aimed at addressing the “significant increase” in organized, unlawful vehicle activity such as street racing, “street takeovers” and unauthorized large-scale car club events, according to a council memo.

In 2025, Broomfield police tracked over 90 of these incidents, which include “dangerous driving behavior from drifting, burn outs and eluding the police,” A.C. Stutson, the deputy chief of Broomfield police, said in the council meeting. He added that the behavior “poses a substantial risk to our citizens.”…
