TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After weeks of severe drought that helped fuel wildfires across Florida and south Georgia, including the Big Pineland Road Fire, rain moving in tonight and this weekend is expected to bring some relief — but not enough to end burn bans or erase the rainfall deficit.
Jefferson County Fire Chief Derrick Burrus said his department has been closely monitoring drought conditions while staying ready to respond to emergencies. Burrus said the forecast is welcome news after weeks of restrictions.
“We’ve had the burn ban for three weeks, we have extended it again for another week. The area is down about 18 inches of rain that’s our deficit so if we get two inches tomorrow which is what they are saying that will be great. But it won’t be enough to reverse the burn bans, or the drought,” Burrus said…
