Mother of murder suspects charged in connection to Albuquerque fatal shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department has arrested 44-year-old Latasha Hicks after she was accused of helping her sons plan a fatal shooting. Xavier Torres, 22, and John Gonzales, 19, were charged with the murder of Gabriel Montaño on April 7. Police said that the two suspects told them they shot Montaño in self-defense, though they knew he would be armed. Police accused Torres of pulling a gun and then firing at Montaño, who was reaching for his bag. Gonzales also began shooting at Montaño and both continued to do so as he fell. Gonzales is accused of shooting Montaño after he hit the ground as well.

Police said Hicks lied about the shooting not being caught on camera in front of her home on her surveillance system. Guns were found inside the home, including a Glock inside a child’s bedroom. Hicks is accused of getting the guns for her sons and helping them before the confrontation. She’s been charged with murder, conspiracy, accessory, and abandonment or abuse of a child. Court…..
