NEW ORLEANS — Day after day, the steady hum of pottery wheels and the clink of glazed ceramics fill a small pottery studio in the Marigny. Here, art is about more than just making something beautiful: it’s about who gets to make it.

Byrdie’s Pottery is working to expand access to ceramics while building a community rooted in creativity and social impact.

The nonprofit studio offers about eight classes each week, from beginner wheel-throwing to youth programs and workshops. Most run six to eight weeks, giving newcomers time to develop skills, while more experienced artists can apply for 24/7 studio memberships…
