Anchorage woman appears in court on murder charge in mother’s death

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – An Anchorage woman appeared in court Monday for an arraignment and bail hearing after prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge in the death of her mother, who was found dead in a Mountain View home in late January.

The defendant, 43-year-old Crystal Hazlitt, who appeared in person on Monday in Anchorage court, is accused in the death of Bonnie Wright, 67, who Anchorage police said was found dead Jan. 28 in a residence on the 700 block of North Park Street.

She has a discovery hearing scheduled at 3 p.m. on June 1 and her bail has been set at $500,000.

In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Hazlitt also faces two counts of second-degree theft involving an access device or identification document, a fraudulent use of a stolen access device or ID charge involving a loss between $75 and $24,999, and a first-degree vehicle theft charge — all Class C felonies under Alaska law. She is also charged with violating conditions of release, including one Class A misdemeanor count and one Class B misdemeanor count, according to court records.

Wright was found dead after detectives investigating a missing persons alert searched the North Park Street home and discovered her body, Anchorage police said. Police issued a missing persons alert Jan. 25 for Wright, Hazlitt and two juveniles, and found Hazlitt and the children Jan. 26…
