Thursday’s Five Facts
[1] Family remembers man shot and killed outside of Main Event – Isaiah Jackson-Herrera, 28, was shot and killed at Main Event on Pan American last month. Albuquerque Police say surveillance video shows him leaving the entertainment center with family and friends around 1:30 in the morning, walking past two men who had just been escorted out. A witness told police words were exchanged between Jackson-Herrera and one of those men when a fight broke out. Police one of the men pulled out the gun and shot Jackson-Herrera, killing him. Police arrested 17-year-old Wyatt Drake and 21-year-old Kevin Vargas for the shooting.
[2] NMHU confirms change in leadership but doesn’t say why – NMHU president was placed on leave while three other leaders’ jobs are on the line. NMHU General Counsel Doajo Hicks confirmed the board of regents placed President Neil Woolf on administrative leave during a special meeting last Friday, but no reasons yet as to why. The university wouldn’t say why, but said Provost Dann Brown is now being covered by interim Provost Ian Williamson. VP for Advancement Paul Grindstaff and VP for Government Affairs David Lepre are also being replaced. Interim President Kimberley Blea addressed the changes to students and faculty in a Zoom forum. But students, faculty, and media struggled to join the meeting, missing her speak.
[3] Cold start before warmer weather ahead for New Mexico – Drier and warmer weather returns Thursday afternoon. This will start a warming trend that continues into Friday and Saturday, with some occasional breezes. Another backdoor cold front will move through eastern New Mexico Saturday night, dropping high temperatures by a few to several degrees Sunday afternoon.
