Albuquerque police officer pleads guilty in fatal motorcycle crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — An Albuquerque police officer who hit and killed a man while riding a motorcycle off-duty has taken a plea deal in the case. Ezekiel Florez resigned after hitting Daniel Trujillo on Central near Coors in May 2025.

Surveillance video showed a man running across the crosswalk when a motorcycle Florez was riding hits the victim. While Florez had a green light, police said he was speeding at around 70 mph. The victim later died and Florez was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and evidence tampering.

Florez pleaded guilty, with prosecutors dropping the vehicular homicide charge. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for June. Florez’s passenger, fellow APD officer, Krystal Garcia, is also charged in the case and is expected in court in June…
