Anchorage’s Downtown Hope Center expands workforce training program for homeless people

A private, faith-based organization that aims to bring people out of homelessness and teach them life and career skills in expanding in Anchorage.

The Downtown Hope Center is purchasing a much larger space across the street from its current location. The move will double the center’s capacity, according to Sherrie Laurie, who heads the program.

“Right now we just do culinary and bakery, but we’re going to move to that building and expand the school into some other opportunities, like construction, training people in housekeeping, just different things that would give them more job opportunities,” she said…
