Jury convicts New Orleans man in 2023 domestic violence killing of Cassie Piquet

A man on trial in connection with a November 2023 domestic violence killing was found guilty Thursday on all three counts at Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.

Jurors convicted Carl Wilson, 41, of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice and illegal possession of a firearm by a felon. Wilson shot Cassie Piquet, 39, multiple times on a dead-end street on Nov. 7, 2023. She was pronounced dead at the scene in the 8600 block of Castle Court.

“Cassie was a nurturing and loving mother who had just become a grandmother only four months before she was shot to death,” Quida Piquet, her sister, said following the verdict. “If you knew Cassie, she had a big mouth, and we refused to let her be silenced. She stood up for what she believed in, and since she cannot stand today, we will.”…
