New plaque memorializes victims of ‘99 Mother’s Day bus crash in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Outside City Park’s Pan Am Stadium, a plaque now honors the victims of the 1999 Mother’s Day bus crash, the deadliest auto accident in Louisiana history.

The crash happened May 9, 1999, when a charter bus carrying mostly senior citizens from St. John Parish was headed to a Mississippi casino. The bus veered off the road and crashed into an embankment next to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 610.
