The warmest weather of the year so far may be on the way: Here’s when you can expect a preview of summer

TOLEDO, Ohio — A significant warm-up is expected to develop across much of the country over the next several days as a large ridge of high pressure builds into the eastern half of the United States. The pattern change will allow temperatures to climb well above average in many areas and could bring some locations their warmest weather so far this year.

Ridges of high pressure are associated with sinking air and increased sunshine, both of which help temperatures rise. As this warmer air mass expands northward, many communities will begin transitioning from an early spring-like feel toward conditions that resemble early summer.

The warmer pattern is also expected to increase humidity levels in some areas, making temperatures feel even warmer during the afternoon hours. Overnight temperatures may also begin staying milder, another sign that the atmosphere is shifting away from the cooler spring setup that has dominated at times this season.

What this means for Toledo and the region

Here in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, temperatures are expected to trend above average during the upcoming stretch. High temperatures could climb into the low to mid-80s, which is 5 to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year…
