Justice for Christa: friends and family fight to keep Christa Bauer Gilley’s legacy alive

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) — Friends and loved ones in Summerville are working to ensure that Christa Bauer Gilley is remembered not for the tragedy surrounding her death, but for the life she lived, the people she touched, and the legacy she leaves behind.

Christa Bauer Gilley was killed in her Texas home in October 2024 while nine weeks pregnant. Her husband, Lee Gilley, has been charged with capital murder in connection with her death.

The case has recently taken another dramatic turn. Lee Gilley, who was scheduled to stand trial on May 29, is now in custody in Milan, Italy, after authorities say he removed his ankle monitor and fled the United States earlier this month. According to court documents, Gilley told an Italian judge he is innocent and is seeking asylum to avoid extradition back to the U.S., where he could face the death penalty…
